Poland says that it has applied to host American nuclear weapons

Poland's Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski said that Poland has officially requested the deployment of US nuclear weapons by applying to participate in the Nuclear sharing program. He said this on local TV.

"We are talking about a program called Nuclear sharing. This is a NATO program, but the decision and full control over the use of nuclear weapons, which, for example, would be deployed in Poland, would be made by the Americans. Of course, this program operates in Europe. Belgium, Italy, and Germany participate in the program. And Poland has declared its readiness to participate in this program. And this statement of readiness has not been withdrawn," Zalewski said.

It is worth noting that Polish President Andrzej Duda has previously stated that he is considering the option of deploying nuclear weapons in Poland. His statement provoked a mixed reaction. Polish Prime Minister Tusk criticized this idea.

And NATO has stated that it has no plans to deploy nuclear forces in Poland.

In addition, today Polish Foreign Minister Andrzej Szejna criticized Duda's words about nuclear weapons. He believes that this would expose Poland to "the risk of Russian missiles being sent against us."

"We should have consulted with the government first, not come out and say we want to have nuclear weapons in Poland," Szejna said.

However, he admitted the possibility of deploying nuclear weapons in his country if "our allies say that such missiles should be in Poland."
