The deceased Alexei Navalny was apparently killed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

"It has just become known that Alexei Navalny has died in a Russian prison. Obviously, he was killed by Putin, like thousands of others tortured, tortured because of this one creature. Putin doesn't care who dies, as long as he keeps his position," the president said.

The West and the Russian opposition also blamed Putin for Navalny's death.

"The Russian authorities are publishing confessions that they killed Alexei Navalny in prison. We have no way to confirm this or prove that it is not true. Navalny's lawyer is on his way to Kharp," said Navalny's associate Leonid Volkov.

From Ukraine, Yermak was the first to comment on the death.

The first foreign leader to comment on the news of Navalny's death was Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs.

The NATO Secretary General said that all the facts surrounding Navalny's death must be established, and "Russia must answer serious questions."

European Council President Charles Michel said that the EU holds the Russian authorities responsible for Navalny's death.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that "Navalny paid with his life for his courage to return to Russia".

The President of Georgia also commented on Navalny's death: "A tragedy for all defenders of democracy and human rights."
