On Ukraine's border with Russia and Belarus, the Defense Forces continue to increase the number and effectiveness of mobile air defense fire groups. Counter-sabotage work is also underway, with defensive lines being built and a powerful system of engineering barriers being created. This was stated by the commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev.
According to Nayev, in recent months alone, the fortification of the defense lanes of the state border of Ukraine in the Northern Operational Zone has been increased by 63 percent.
According to the commander, the situation in this region is under control. Despite the fact that the enemy periodically shells Ukrainian territory with artillery and mortars, tries to use subversive rocket launchers and launches attack drones, it has not created offensive groups here.
"However, we are not sitting idly by. The defense forces are proactive. We are increasing the number and effectiveness of mobile air defense firing groups, and counter-sabotage work is ongoing. But the main thing is that we are building defensive lines and creating a powerful system of engineering barriers," said Nayev.
He emphasized that all this is being done to make Ukrainians feel safe. In the future, if the threat grows, additional combat brigades will be ready to arrive at the constructed facilities and take up prepared positions.
The commander also said that these positions are no different from those that are being built in other northern regions, from Volyn to Kharkiv region. They are made according to a standardized scheme. Adjustments are made only due to terrain features.
Each trench is reinforced with geotextiles, concrete protective structures, dugouts, and firing positions are equipped. A system of engineering obstacles, both non-explosive and explosive, is placed in front of the stronghold.
"In the future, after civilian organizations complete their work here, certain areas will be densely mined. Thus, we are creating a facility that, in terms of its defensive capabilities, should deter the attack of at least a battalion of enemy forces. We are creating a whole defensive strip, which, in turn, is capable of deterring larger military formations," explained Nayev.
