The International Fencing Federation explained the decision regarding the situation with the Ukrainian athlete Olga Harlan.

 The Executive Committee of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) explained that the disqualification of Olga Harlan was not canceled, but suspended. This means that Harlan will play as part of the Ukrainian national team at the World Cup, but will then be suspended for two months.

 The federation said that after a long review of the incident, it considers the "black card" for the Ukrainian woman to be legitimate and complies with all the rules. However, after consulting with the International Olympic Committee, it was decided to allow Harlan to compete at the World Championships.

 Scandal with Harlan

 The International Fencing Federation (FIE) has decided to replace the traditional handshake between athletes with a greeting from a distance.

 The appropriate decision will allow Ukrainian athletes not to approach the Russians, even when the latter compete as "neutrals".

 After defeating the Russian fencer Anna Smirnova, Olga Harlan refused the traditional ritual - a handshake. After talking with her rival, the athlete left the court, and the "neutral" fencer demanded Olga's disqualification.

 Despite the fact that the judges rejected the Russian athlete's protest, Harlan's next match against the Bulgarian Iliyeva did not take place. The organizers of the competition disqualified the athlete for disrespecting her opponent from the Russian Federation.

 Harlan was later granted automatic qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games.
